The Faces of the Van der Linde Gang

A merry band of people

Several days ago on Wednesday, September 5th, Red Dead Redemption 2 developer, Rockstar Games posted a picture of a wanted poster. The poster had a representation of Dutch van der Linde who is the leader of the Van der Linde gang that has been terrorising the Wild West.

On September 6th, Rockstar Games posted multiple Red Dead Redemption 2 related pictures and each of them came with an illustration of a character from the upcoming open-world Western. Each character artwork also had a quote from the character which gives us a small glimpse into how these people think.

I will go into detail about several of the character artworks posted by Rockstar Games and will gather them all up in one place for people to look at.

All of the following pictures come from Rockstar Games Twitter.

Dutch van der Linde

Red Dead Redemption fans may remember Dutch from the first game, he was one of the antagonists that RDR 1 protagonist John Marston had to find and take out.

Dutch is the leader of the Van der Linde gang which is known for robbing banks and trains and committing several other crimes. In Red Dead Redemption 2, Dutch and his gang are on the run from the law and continue to rob and kill.

I’m interested to learn more about Dutch. In the first game, we got a good idea of the kind of man he was but I felt like his character wasn’t explored that much.

John Marston

The man, the legend, John Marston. Marston is one of my favourite video game characters of all time and whilst his return was inevitable, it’s always nice him.

We knew that Marston was a member of Dutch’s gang thanks to the first game.

Abigail Roberts

Abigail Roberts eventually becomes John Marston’s wife, as in the first Red Dead Redemption, she is known as Abigail Marston. I wonder if we will see the wedding between Abigail and John take place in RDR 2?

Jack Marston

Jack is the son of John and Abigail Marston and in Red Dead Redemption 2, he will be a young boy growing up amongst the Van der Linde gang. Fans of the series know that Jack grows up to be a fine gentleman with a strong sense of justice.

Uncle

Uncle is also present in the first Red Dead Redemption, he lives with John and Abigail Marston. Not much is really known about Uncle, other than that he is an alcoholic and lazy.

It will be interesting to learn more of Uncle’s backstory in Red Dead Redemption 2 and hopefully a proper name.

Sadie Adler

Sadie Adler is present a lot in the trailers that we’ve seen so far for Red Dead Redemption 2, which is making me think that she is going to be a major character.

I quite like the design for Sadie and in the trailers, she comes across as a no-nonsense person who can get the job done. She also seems to be quite close to RDR 2 protagonist Arthur Morgan, hopefully, this angle is explored in the game.

Arthur Morgan

Arthur Morgan is the main protagonist of Red Dead Redemption 2 and from what we’ve seen so far, he looks like an interesting character.

We already know a bit about Arthur Morgan but the big question is, will he be as memorable and likeable as John Marston? We’ll find out come October 26th.

Red Dead Redemption 2 releases on October 26 for PS4 and Xbox One.

  1. This is awesome! Thank you for posting, I haven’t gotten a chance to watch the newest updates yet. I’m happy for this game and anxious to see what happens. so does this mean we will be paying as more of an outlaw in the story mode? I wonder if we can switch between Arthur and Sadie or any other characters in the story.

    1. No problem, thank you for reading. 🙂

In RDR2 we are an outlaw on the run from the law but I think we get to choose what kind of person Arthur is by our actions, similar to the karma system in RDR1. If John helped people, he would be seen as a hero whereas if he killed people for no reason, he’d be seen as a criminal. I think that’s how it will play out.

As far as we know, Arthur will be the only playable character in the game. Rockstar could pull an RDR 1 on us and change the playable character after a significant story moment.

      1. I remember that place, bears could sneak up on you and take you out in two hits.

I spent most of my time in Armadillo or wandering the deserts of Mexico. RDR nailed the Wild West world and atmosphere and I’m sure Rockstar will do the same again with RDR2.
