My E3 2017 Wish list

The previous piece I wrote was about games that I would like to see at E3 2017. This time around however, I am writing about games I’d like to see get announced at E3 2017. Everyone has a video game wish list. Everyone has that game they love and wished that it had a sequel.

This is a list of some of the games that I’d love to see get a sequel. Some of the games here are expected to get a sequel sooner or later and some, have been dormant for years and have been forgotten. Some of the games in this list may surprise you, so without further ado let’s get cracking.

Dino Crisis 4 or series reboot

Dino Crisis 1 logo

It’s been a long time since we had a game in this series, too long. The last entry in the series was Dino Crisis 3 which was, well bloody awful. The less said about the third game, the better. Dino Crisis 1 and 2 however were absolutely brilliant and to me, were some of the best games in the PS1’s fantastic catalogue. The first Dino Crisis was a survival horror game with dinosaurs, it was fun, had a fantastic atmosphere and the protagonist Regina was brilliant. Dino Crisis 2 went the more action route but it was still extremely fun. Honestly I have lost count of how many times I’ve completed Dino Crisis 2. I’ve always thought we would get a sequel on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 but alas, it never happened. Series developer Capcom want to revisit some of their older franchises and as you’d expect, people have been asking for a new Dino Crisis game. Will we see a new Dino Crisis game at E3? I hope so but I’m not holding my breath.

Sleeping Dogs 2

Sleeping Dogs Wallpaper

Sleeping Dogs was something of a sleeper hit (terrible pun intended). It was martial arts movie game that we had been waiting for. The action was great, the combat was brutal and incredibly satisfying and it had pretty damn good story. I love martial arts movies, so Sleeping Dogs won me over almost immediately. I enjoyed the DLC for the game as well. I have to say, Sleeping Dogs is one of my favourite games of the last generation. I thought we would get a sequel to the game but unfortunately developer United Front Games, was shut down. With the developer gone I thought that we would never get a sequel to Sleeping Dogs however, something happened that made me think otherwise. A movie adaptation of Sleeping Dogs was announced earlier this year and it stars martial arts film star, Donnie Yen. Now whilst Donnie Yen himself is a big enough draw and money-maker, a new Sleeping Dogs video game will only further increase the attention towards the film. A good Sleeping Dogs movie and a new game will help Square Enix realise that they’re sitting on a good franchise. A new Sleeping Dogs game would be amazing but like many of the other games on this list I’m not getting my hopes up too high.

Soul Calibur VI

Soul_Calibur_Logo_1_a

Soul Calibur VI WILL happen, it’s just a matter of when. Now that the latest instalment of Bandai Namco’s flagship fighter, Tekken is out, it’s only a matter of time. I think it will be announced at E3, Evo Tournament 2017 or Tokyo Games Show 2017. It is happening it’s just a case of when. Soul Calibur VI however needs to be good,  after the very disappointing (in my opinion) Soul Calibur V. It needs a story mode with some effort put into it and not for it to be completed in 30 minutes. Some of the series regulars that were not in SC V need to come back. The customisation was one of the few things I liked in SC V. I want them to do one thing and it will make me happy, put Kilik back in. In SC V the took away his Kali-Yuga and turned into a mimic, why? My main character, the character I knew the best and his style that I loved was gone. He had a replacement called Xiba but he didn’t feel the same. Anyway enough of me ranting, Soul Calibur VI will happen, you just got to wait for it.

Rival Schools Sequel/ Reboot

RivalLogo

Rival Schools is one of the many fighting games that Capcom made back in the day. The last entry was Project Justice: Rival Schools 2 on the Dreamcast back in 2001. I played Rival Schools: United by Fate on the PS1 a lot (not as much as Tekken or Soul Blade (the  prequel to Soul Calibur) and I enjoyed it. I wasn’t brilliant at it but I loved the art style, the charcters and its music. I would’ve thought Capcom would have done a sequel or reboot to Rival Schools but no, it seems to have been forgotten. Capcom have acknowledged that there are people who would like another entry into the cult fighting game and to add to that, as mentioned before Capcom want to revisit some of their older franchises. Could Rival Schools be one of them? We may see it at E3, we may not. If it is indeed happening my money is on it being announced  at Tokyo Games Show (TGS). What year though? That’s up to the mystical gaming gods.

Metro 2035

MetroRedux

Another game that will more than likely happen, is Metro 2035 or whatever they want to call it. The Metro series is brilliant and its world is incredibly interesting. The games got me into the Metro book series by Dmitry Glukhovsky and I have to thank Metro series and developer 4A Games for getting me into a fantastic book series (I still need to get around to reading Metro 2035). Back onto the video game side of things, Metro 2033 and Last Light were fantastic games that put me into a fascinating atmospheric world. In Metro the world itself is one of the main characters and the people who populate it, are just as interesting. The monsters that now roam the world are terrifying and I wouldn’t like to see any of them in real life. It’s been a while since the last Metro game and I have to say, I’ve missed the series a lot. I know I can play through both of them again but I want a new post-apocalyptic adventure in this desolate yet beautiful world.

A new Tony Hawk game

Tony-Hawks-Underground-2

Ok let’s get the elephants in the room sorted, the motion control games and Pro Skater 5 were goddamn awful. All the other games in the series though, were good and fun to play alone or with friends. My personal favourite is Tony Hawk’s Underground 2, it improved on the gameplay and it was a rollercoaster ride of fun. The Pro Skater games (not 5) were some an absolute blast. I played many games with friends, yet it was the Tony Hawk’s games that brought us all together. Now after the appalling Pro Skater 5, you’d think that we won’t get another Tony Hawk game. However, it seems the Hawkman is working on something and not with Activision. You can throw all of your wild theories around but, don’t instantly assume that this means Skate 4 is in the works (another game that many people want). Will we see a new Tony Hawk game at E3? I’d say it’s a 50/50 chance.

A new Burnout

burnout-paradise-standard-edition_pdp_1920x1080_en_WW

Burnout is a fantastic racing series, there’s nothing else out there like it. Driving cars at high-speed trying to take out your opponents by ramming into them and trading paint. You had the ‘Crash Time’ events which allowed you to cause a car crash cataclysm of beauty. Traffic Attack in Burnout Revenge was tremdous fun and if you have road rage, that mode was for you. Burnout Paradise went open world and it maintained the action and insanity the series was known for. The last entry in the series we had, was Burnout Crash but that didn’t feel like a Burnout game, it was good though. Burnout Paradise is now playable on Xbox One via backwards compatibility and EA, who own the rights to series know that there is still interest in the series. EA may surprise us with an announcement of a new Burnout but don’t expect one, just in case it doesn’t happen.

Devil May Cry 5

devil_may_cry_4_special_edition

It’s only a matter of time before this gets announced and I will be overjoyed when it does. Devil May Cry is an awesome series and is one of the best hack and slash games in the genre. If you don’t count DMC Devil May Cry recent re-release of Devil May Cry 4, the last “proper” Devil May Cry was back in 2008. I’ve missed the cockiness of Dante and I want more story because, I love the story and world of Devil May Cry. The main thing though is that it has to be; the original white-haired, red coat wearing, cocky, sarcastic Dante.  I hope Devil May Cry 5 gets revealed at E3 and it could very well happen. Capcom want to revisit some of their older franchises and Sony has teased big announcements concerning  Japanese games. This WILL get announced but like Soul Calibur VI, it’s just a matter of when.

PGR 5 (Project Gotham Racing 5)

PGR 4 Wallpaper

Project Gotham Racing 4 is one of the best racing games I’ve ever played. I started playing the series with PGR 3 when I first got my Xbox 360. I played PGR 3 a lot, so much so that I got a little addicted to it. At the time it was one of my favourite racing games next to Gran Turismo 4 and Ridge Racer 5 (We need another Ridge Racer as well). Then in 2007 PGR 4 came out and it became my favourite racing game off all time (not counting kart racers). It was bigger and better than PGR 3 and it added motorbikes, I loved it.

Again like PGR 3 I got addicted to PGR 4 but even more so than before, I rushed home from school just so I could have another race. The game was also fun with friends, nearly all of them played it. Hell, me and my friends carried on playing PGR 4 when the PS4 and Xbox One came out. It was that popular and revered by me and my friends. You know what? Still to this day, 10 years after it was released, I still play it from time to time and so do my friends. No other racing game has ever ‘got’ me like PGR 4. Gran Turismo, Forza Motorsport, Forza Horizon, The Crew, and other racing games since PGR 4 was released, haven’t been able to get me like PGR 4 did. If Microsoft do announce a PGR 5 at E3, I might lose my mind.

Dark Cloud 3

Dark_cloud_logo

The first Dark Cloud game was a launch title for the PlayStation 2. When I first got my PS2 many moons ago, Dark Cloud was one of the games I had. Dark Cloud is a JRPG by Level 5, whom you may also now as the developers of Ni No Kuni and the Professor Layton series. In the first game, many parts of the world including its people disappeared due to the power of the Dark Genie. You traverse many dungeons and acquire the elements of the world that disappeared and then it’s up to you to put the world back together. When I first played Dark Cloud way back when, I had played nothing like it. It was unique and I loved it.

Dark Cloud got a sequel called Dark Chronicle (Dark Cloud 2 in North America) and it was better in every way. It had a distinguishable art style, good gameplay, the story was better written and more memorable and the world building returned and was expanded on. The music, oh the music is simply beautiful. Dark Chronicle is a pretty long game and I’ve completed it several times and I recently completed it again, this time on PS4. Both Dark Cloud and Dark Chronicle are available on PS4 with trophy support and have been upscaled to look a little better. The Dark Cloud/ Chronicle series is one of my favourites and it amazes as to why we haven’t got one because it was received so well by critics and gamers. Will it be announced at E3? Sony have said there are some “big announcements” concerning Japanese games, so there is that.  I want a new Dark Cloud game but I don’t have high hopes, it’s been so long that if it doesn’t get announced, I won’t get sad.

Zone of the Enders 3

zoerogo

So… Who’s heard of Zone of the Enders? There are a few people out there who have and it surprises me that so few people have heard about it. Why you ask, that’s because Hideo Kojima produced it. Whenever Kojima’s name is mentioned, a large portion of the gaming world instantly turn around and look. Everyone knows him for Metal Gear but poor Zone of the Enders (and Snatcher) are forgotten about by many people, and that’s sad.

Zone of the Enders is an action game where you control a mech (Orbital Frame to be precise) called Jehuty. The art style is fantastic and the music is extremely good. The story can be hard to follow but when Kojima’s involved, you should expect a convoluted story. It got a sequel called Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner and as you’d expect it improved upon everything and the music got even better. Even though Sony have said they have some big announcements when it comes to Japanese games, the chances of Zone of the Enders 3 happening is pretty much zilch. Still a guy can dream right?

The Bouncer

TheBouncerLogo

Out of all the games in this list, The Bouncer is the one I want to see a sequel or reboot more than anything. I’ll try to keep this bit about The Bouncer as short as possible otherwise I won’t stop talking about it. The Bouncer was a launch title for the PS2 and it received a lukewarm reception by critics, some liked it, others did not. I loved the game. I found the three playable protagonists, Sion, Kou and Volt to be awesome characters. Sure they weren’t the most fleshed out characters in gaming but I connected with them. The antagonist of the game Dauragon C. Mikado is one of my favourite characters in gaming. He has style and his music themes are brilliant and fit the character well. In my opinion though, The Bouncer has one awesome soundtrack and features some memorable tunes.

It’s been 16 years since The Bouncer was released (17 years in Japan) and the chances of getting a sequel or a reboot are next to none. I want a sequel and/ or reboot, I really hope we do but I’m not placing any bets on any of them happening. I know The Bouncer doesn’t mean a lot to some people, but I’ve always wanted a sequel since I was a kid. They could make the combat play like Sleeping Dogs. I think that would be awesome to see. I know all this about The Bouncer is all in vain as it will more than likely not happen, but leave me alone to dream.

Well there you go that’s my wish list for E3 2017. There are many more games that I would’ve added but I didn’t, otherwise this piece would’ve been a novel instead of wish list piece.

I hope you enjoyed reading this. Any feedback is appreciated.

  1. Woooh! The Bouncer! … Another have I desperately wanted to like (despite being disappointed by it). It actually spawned my online tag “Dogstreet” which is now shared with the German version “Hundstrasse” as it’s less likely to be taken.

  2. The main one that I would totally agree with: Sleeping Dogs 2. My husband has been DYING for another one and I have to admit I loved watching him play it. (It’s on my “To Play List” I swear.) We didn’t get it, but….. There is hope that it will somehow come soon.

    1. Sleeping Dogs is a brilliant game. It captures the martial arts movie vibe perfectly. I think a sequel will happen given the movie that’s coming out.
Never give up hope for a video game sequel, unless it’s Half Life 3 then give up because that’s never happening.

      1. Well the new trailer was really good and all the models and evironments looked like final build quality. There’s a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts III coming next month so maybe we’ll get a release date. Or at the least a release year.
