Bethesda E3 2018 Conference – Overview

My thoughts on what was shown Bethesda’s E3 2018 conference

  • Rage 2

Things started off with Rage 2 and I have to say I really like the look of this. I enjoyed the first game but it didn’t wow everybody. Whilst Rage 2 is still a shooter, it has a completely different attitude. I have to say I love this, no care given, insane personality that Rage 2 has.

At Bethesda’s show they showed off a good chunk of gameplay which firmly cemented its humour.

It’s coming out in 2019 but there is no fixed date. With iD and Avalanche working on Rage 2, I’m fairly confident that this will be a very fun game. Just don’t give us a really bad ending this time. (Rage 1’s ending is quite honestly one of the worst endings to game I’ve ever seen.)

  • Prey DLC

I have only played a bit of Prey at a friends but this DLC looked pretty good. There’s a new DLC called Mooncrash which is out now but there’s another one called Tiphon Hunter which looks like Prop Hunt. This DLC is one I quite liked the look of just because it looked like a lot of fun.

I need to get around to playing Prey from start to finish at some point.

  • DOOM Eternal

DOOM! We are getting a new DOOM. I am incredibly hyped because I LOVE DOOM. The new game is called DOOM Eternal and it looks it is “Hell on Earth”. We know that there are going to be more demons than in DOOM (2016) which is lovely stuff. More demons to kill is never a bad thing.

Hurry up Quake Con so we can see some gameplay and hopefully get a release date. I want to shoot demons now. I’m booting DOOM (2016) up again.

  • Wolfenstein: Youngblood

We are getting a new Wolfenstein standalone game called Youngblood and is a co-op game where you play as BJ Blazkowicz’s daughters. The game is set after the events of Wolfenstein 2 and BJ has gone missing.

We don’t much about Wolfenstein: Youngblood but as long as it plays like the main games, then I think we are set for good experience.

  • The Elder Scrolls: Blades

Elder Scrolls for mobile. I got to say I shrugged my shoulders when Todd Howard announced this but as soon as I saw gameplay, I was interested. I have to say this is one of the best looking mobile games I have ever seen. Of course it doesn’t play exactly like Skyrim but the fact they have pulled this off on a mobile is damn impressive.

The Elder Scrolls: Blades releases later this year and I think I will give it a shot.

  • Fallout 76

I was wondering what Fallout 76 was actually going to be and that question was answered. Fallout 76 is an online Fallout game where you can co-op with friends or do PvP.

This is a big change to what we’ve come to expect from Bethesda Game Studios, as they are known for their single player adventures. It isn’t your usual Fallout game that’s for sure but I definitely want to play it now.

Fallout 76 is a different game and I can understand why some people are against it but I applaud Bethesda Game Studios for going out of their comfort zone and doing something different. Of course there are things I am worried about such as, how good the story will be and how exactly will quests be given out but as I said before, I applaud Bethesda for trying something new.

Yesterday, Danny O’Dwyer released a video on his Noclip channel called “The Making of Fallout 76”. It is a very well made video (click the link above) and dispelled some of my worries that I had for Fallout 76. I have to say that I am very happy that weapon degradation is back, a feature that I missed in Fallout 4.

Fallout 76 releases on November 14 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Me and my friends are already planning our adventure into post-apocalyptic West Virginia.

  • Starfield

After years of rumours and people finding the trademarks for it, Bethesda finally announced Starfield which is Bethesda Game Studios’ first original IP in 25 years. To hear that it is their first original IP in 25 years is crazy.

We know it is going to be a single player adventure which is what BGS (Bethesda Game Studios) are known for. Starfield is going to be a sci-fi BGS styled RPG which sounds incredibly cool. We don’t know much about it but in an interview with Geoff Keighley, Todd Howard said that Starfield is in a playable state which is very interesting.

Could Starfield release next year? It’s certainly possible. I will guess that Starfield will release late 2019 or late 2020. When will we hear more about Starfield? We won’t see anymore of Starfield until Fallout 76 is released. I think we will see more of Starfield next year.

A BGS styled sci-fi RPG, I cannot wait.

  • The Elder Scrolls VI

It happened. It actually happened. Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls VI and I can’t wait for it. It was only a teaser trailer just to confirm that it is indeed in development. I am not expecting this anytime soon as this will release after Starfield.

If I had to take a guess as to when, I would say around 2020/ 2021 at the earliest. It’s going to be a long wait but I’m certain that when it releases, I will get lost in the world, absorb the lore and atmosphere and completely sever my ties with outside world for a good few months.

There were some other announcements as well regarding The Elder Scrolls Online and The Elder Scrolls: Legends which were cool but I picked out all of the “big” stuff and focused on them.
