Gamer Confessions Tag

I found out about this “Gamer Confessions” tag from A Geeky Gal who found this tag from A Geek Girl’s Guide. I haven’t written on my blog in over a week as I’ve been dealing with life things but finally, things have settled and I can get back to blogging again. I thought a good way to come back after a week off from writing on my site would be to take part in this tag.

So here we go, here are some of my gaming confessions.

A game everyone loves that you can’t stand

Fortnite, well, all Battle Royale games. I’ve tried them but I just can’t get into them. The art style for Fortnite is cool but the gameplay bores me and I don’t get that sense of fulfillment. I’m happy that people like Battle Royale games but they aren’t for me.

A game that you love, but no one else seems to

The Bouncer. I know that there are other people who like The Bouncer but my god, sometimes it feels like I’m the only one. It was one of the first PS2 games I played and it has a special place in my heart. The game isn’t perfect, it has many flaws but I love it regardless.

An older game you haven’t finished, and probably never will

There are a few but one I probably won’t get back to is Heavenly Sword on PS3. I bought some years back and I got around halfway through it and another game that I wanted came out and I stopped playing it. I had fun with the game but with so many games coming out and games that I like to replay, I don’t think I will have the time to go back to it.

A guilty pleasure game

Dynasty Warriors, well, any of the ‘Warriors/ Musou’ style games. Yes, they are repetitive. Yes, the games are easy (unless you play on Chaos difficulty). Yes, they don’t have the best graphics. However, I could care less as I get a huge amount of joy from playing these games. The Musou games are just mindless fun that I can unwind with. I’ve been playing Dynasty Warriors and other Musou games since I was seven years old and I’ll continue to play them when I’m 70 years old.

A game you really love but haven’t played in a long time

An old PS1 game called Silent Bomber. I really enjoy SIlent Bomber but I haven’t played I fully in over a decade. Just typing this out makes me want to go and play it, thankfully, I have a copy ready for me to play. The problem is finding time to play the game amongst all the other games I am currently playing and will play soon.

A game you never play seriously but others do

This one is easy, Mortal Kombat. I enjoy playing Mortal Kombat and I know the basics but all I want to do is to beat my opponent and perform the fatality. I know some of the characters well but Mortal Kombat is a fighter that I play for fun not competitively unlike Tekken.

A game you completed but hated it by the end

Here’s a hot take. One game that I completed but by the end of it I hated it, is Metal Gear Solid V. MGS V starts off incredibly well and in the first 10 or so hours, the game is fun and enjoyable. After around the 10/15 hour mark, the gameplay starts to feel the same and the game becomes a little boring. The thing that got me through it was the story, I wanted to know how it plays out, how it ends. I wanted to finally get the answers that I and many other MGS fans have been waiting years for.

Whilst we did get some answers, it didn’t give us all of them. MGS V was supposed to conclude the series but it ended up raising more questions. The game isn’t even finished as an entire chapter was cut from the game, a chapter that could have helped answer questions and made me not hate the game. I was looking forward to MGS V but by the end of it, I was disappointed.

A game you thought you’d enjoy, but didn’t

Here we go, hot take number two. My answer to this… The Last of Us. Now before the rabid internet horde lunge at me, I want to say that I like The Last of Us but I didn’t love it. I had fun with the game and there are plenty of good things about the game but I didn’t love it.

I thought I would fall head over heels for The Last of Us as developer Naughty Dog has made some of my favourite games, Crash Bandicoot and Uncharted. However, it didn’t resonate with me the same way Crash and Uncharted did, I never felt that special connection. The Last of Us IS a good game but I did not enjoy it as much as many other people did.

A game you didn’t think was for you, and then loved

Valkyria Chronicles. My friend showed me the case for the game and told me a bit about it. He said it was a strategy JRPG with a good story and a cool art style. I’m not that big on strategy RPGs, there are few that I like but the genre doesn’t grab me like a traditional RPG or JRPG. For the first hour or so I couldn’t get into it, the game didn’t hook me but I wanted to like it because I liked the characters and the story.

I’m glad that I stuck with it because after about three or four hours, I fell in love with the game. I even enjoyed the strategy aspect of Valkyria Chronicles, I was swapping in and out different kinds of soldiers and trying new combat strategies, it was fun. Playing Valkyria Chronicles made me want to try out other strategy JRPGs and I’m starting to finally enjoy them. Thank you Valkyria Chronicles, you made me like a genre of games that I once could not get into.

A game you are still excited for that hasn’t come out yet

A game that I have been waiting years for. A game that honestly feels like I have waited all my life for. A game that I have waited pretty much half of my life for. That game is Kingdom Hearts III.

To say that I am excited for Kingdom Hearts III would be a huge understatement. Square Enix has finally put my favourite Disney movie in Kingdom Hearts, Toy Story. There’s a Toy Story world where Buzz Lightyear and Woody are your allies. When Toy Story was revealed for KH3, I nearly cried tears of joy.

I have been waiting for this game for so long and it is finally within touching distance. Can January 29th hurry up?

    1. I know what you mean. I know KH3 is going to be good but is it going to blow me away, will it live up to the high expectations that fans have? I hope it does but we shall see come January 29th.
