It’s Question of the Month time again and this month’s question comes from… me. Yes, I am the star blogger for August and I’m honoured to have been called that and to make this month’s question.

This month’s question – Many of us say that we would like to live in a video game world but surely we would have a family. My question is, which video game characters would be a part of your family in a gaming world of your choice?

Now I know that I can’t win this month’s Question of the Month (or could I be an evil dictator and pick myself, muhahaha) but that doesn’t mean I can’t have a go. I enjoy answering each Question of Month as each month brings a new fun and surprising question to answer. Here’s my answer to the Question of the Month for August 2018.

 

Father – Kazuma Kiryu (Yakuza)

Kazuma Kiryu is a strong person and can handle himself in a fight. Not only is Kiryu strong physically, he also has strong morals. Kiryu has a strict code of honour and justice that he sticks to and will protect those closest to him until the bitter end.

I’ve always thought that Kiryu would make a good father figure and the series most recent entry Yakuza 6, confirmed my thoughts. Kiryu is a good father figure and will go to the ends of the earth and then some to protect his family. If Kiryu was your dad, no one would mess with you.

 

Mother – Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)

Lara Croft is adventurous, intelligent and is as tough as nails. My mom is pretty much the same, she was adventurous as she loved to explore caves when she was younger. My mom is quite intelligent and she usually has the answer to any question I have and like Lara, she is tough as hell. My mom takes no crap from anybody she tells it to you straight and if you don’t like it, well then it’s just tough.

Although I have never seen my mom fight (and never want to) to put up with me, my brother and sister and my dad, she has to be tough. My mom is one of the strongest people I know and Lara Croft is one of the best female characters in gaming.

 

Brother – Dante (Devil May Cry)

Dante is tall and will do what he wants when he wants and will say what he wants when he wants, much like my brother. Both are outspoken and very driven. Dante is sarcastic and so is my brother. The only difference between my brother and Dante (other than appearance) is that Dante is part demon whereas my brother is human, well, at least I think he is.

 

Sister – Lunafreya Nox Fleuret (Final Fantasy XV)

Lunafreya is a strong female character and even though Noctis’ role is to protect her, she doesn’t really need anyone to look after her. Luna is like my sister in many ways, she is very driven and once she has started something, she will see it through to the end. She also doesn’t need anyone to protect her as she can handle herself.

However, despite my sister being able to look after herself, I can’t help but look after and protect her. Even though I don’t have to, I feel as though it’s my responsibility to protect. Family has got to look out for family, right?

 

Grandfather – John Marston (Red Dead Redemption)

It’s uncanny how many similarities there are between John Marston and my granddad. Marston is a strong-minded and outspoken man, he’s always helpful and will take time out of his day to help people. He’s also a family man, he loves his family dearly and will go to any lengths to make them happy and to give them a better life. All of the qualities Marston has my granddad does too.

My granddad also shares Marston’s negatives too, he can be a bit too outspoken (it’s rare but it does happen) which can cause trouble but he does rein it in. Marston also doubts himself over big decisions and the choices he has made in life, which is something my granddad does. He wonders what would have happened if he took that job or if he moved to a different area and ponders on what could have been.

Marston and my granddad also have another similarity, they both have had a big impact on my life. Marston is one of my favourite video game characters of all time, he left a massive impression on me and his tale is something I will remember for the rest of my life. My granddad is an incredibly interesting man who has lived a fascinating life and has so many stories to tell. A lot of my granddad’s personality and morals have seeped into mine and we agree on so much.
