Lei Wulong reporting for duty
EVO 2018 was fantastic, there were so many brilliant matches for many fighting games, it was an energetic and hyped three days. The fantastic bouts weren’t the only thing at EVO, there were several fighting game related announcements, all of which were cool. I was expecting a Tekken 7 Season 2 announcement at EVO and I was not disappointed. However, I was surprised at what was shown for Season 2, Nina Williams’ sister Anna and my man, the Jackie Chan of Tekken, Lei Wulong are making their way to Tekken 7 sometime in the future.
Whilst I am happy that Anna is returning, I am over the moon that Lei is coming back. When Tekken 7 released last year Lei was absent and it was weird. Since Tekken 2, Lei has been in every Tekken game and became a staple of the series. When he was missing from the roster in Tekken 7, it was noticeable and it felt like a hole was left.
I love Jackie Chan and the similarities between him and Lei are unmistakable. I’ve always enjoyed playing Lei but I have never been great with him. His move set is so fluid and pulling combos off with Lei feels so damn good. The Season 2 announcement trailer shows Lei pulling off some recognisable moves and combos as well as one or two new moves. It also looks as if Lei will have different Rage Drives depending on the stance he is in. Lei has always been a fun and interesting character to watch but thanks to the Rage Drives, he has got even more interesting.
As well as Anna and Lei, we will also be having another guest character, one that nobody was expecting. I can’t believe I am saying this, Negan from The Walking Dead will be a playable character in Tekken 7. We live in awesome yet weird times people.
Below is a selection of screenshots and character renders of Anna Williams and Lei Wulong.
