Digimon Survive has Been Delayed and I’m Alright With That

Digivolving sometime next year

Last week we got the news that the upcoming JRPG Digimon Survive would, unfortunately, be delayed until 2020 (via Eurogamer). News of the delay was disappointing but expected as we haven’t heard much about the game at all this year.

As some of you may know I am a big Digimon fan and I was really looking forward to playing the game. I listed the game in my Top 10 Most Anticipated Games of 2019 article earlier this year amongst Judgment, Resident Evil 2, Metro Exodus and Metro Exodus. If there is a Digimon game releasing, you bet I’m hyped for it.

When the news of the Survive’s delay dropped last week it was a bit deflating. I was really geared up to play this game but after thinking about it, the delay was to be expected. Digimon Survive was revealed last year and it looks and plays differently to the other Digimon titles that have released in recent years.

We got a bit of news here and there but when 2019 rolled around the JRPG went silent. The only bit of news about the game came from a developer update video a couple of months ago. We didn’t get anything at E3 which pretty much confirmed that this game would be getting delayed, only last week it was made official.

The delay is upsetting but if the devs need more time to make the game the best it can possibly be then I’m alright with that. I’d rather a finished game where you can clearly see the love and passion behind it than one that has been rushed out and won’t live up to the hype.

It’s also quite a smart move by Bandai Namco to push the game back to next year as last week a new Digimon anime was announced. The new anime is called Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna and it is scheduled to release next year. It would make sense from a business standpoint to release Survive around the same time as the anime.

2019 might not be a great year for Digimon but 2020 is shaping up to be amazing if you’re one of the DigiDestined.
